With CM Punk emerging as the breakout star of 2011, there has been a lot of talk about how Punk and John Cena’s big match at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view would deliver with customers. Aside from being one of the top merchandise sellers for WWE in recent months, Punk can add “ability to sell PPVs’” to his resume.
According to the latest numbers released to WWE stockholders, July’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view did over 265,000 worldwide buys – up a staggering 100,000 buys (60%) from 2010′s MITB event. Money in the Bank is now the 3rd top grossing PPV of the year, behind WrestleMania 27 and the Royal Rumble.
