The reason Superman is pale and skinny is that this version of Supes crash-landed in Metropolis as a baby, taking out thousands of people in the process. As a result, the government has kept him under surveillance in a basement for years. He’s pale and weak from the lack of sun, but quickly gets his powers — although not his trademark super-muscles — back after exposure to some rays. The S1 logo on his chest represents his government codename: Subject 1.  | |
