NJPW

The Official HYBRID GLADSTONE Memorial Indy & Puro Results Thread - Page 2 Nj111211

NJPW “POWER STRUGGLE”, 11/12/11 (WPW/PPV)
Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium
6,000 Fans – Super No Vacancy

1. Jado & Gedo beat Tama Tonga & Killer Rabbit (4:32) when Gedo used the Complete Shot on Rabbit.
2. Wataru Inoue & Tomoaki Honma beat Takashi Iizuka & Hideo Saito (3:42) when Honma used a lariat on Iizuka.
3. Yuji Nagata beat Tomohiro Ishii (9:53) with a backdrop hold.
4. Special Tag Match: Yoshihiro Takayama & Taichi beat Togi Makabe & Ryusuke Taguchi (8:39) when Takayama used an Everest German suplex hold on Taguchi.
5. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title: Davey Richards & Rocky Romero (c) beat Tiger Mask & KUSHIDA (12:43) when Richards used the Contract Killer on KUSHIDA (1st defense).
6. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Prince Devitt beat TAKA Michinoku (12:13) with the Bloody Sunday (1st defense).
7. Special Tag Match: MVP & Tetsuya Naito beat Shinsuke Nakamura & Yujiro Takahashi (12:18) when MVP used the Irreversible Crisis on Takahashi.
8. Special Singles Match: Hiroyoshi Tenzan beat Satoshi Kojima (15:49) with a moonsault press.
9. IWGP Intercontinental Title: Masato Tanaka (c) beat Hirooki Goto (9:51) with the Sliding D (1st defense).
10. IWGP Tag Team Title: Giant Bernard & Karl Anderson (c) beat Minoru Suzuki & Lance Archer (17:15) when Anderson pinned Archer after the Giant Gun Stun (10th defense).
11. IWGP Heavyweight Title: Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) beat Toru Yano (22:01) with a Texas Cloverleaf hold (9th defense).

* Hiroshi Tanahashi is now just one step away from equaling Yuji Nagata’s V10 defense record as IWGP Heavyweight Champion after fending off CHAOS’ Toru Yano today at a sold out Osaka Prefectural Gymnasium. And guess who stepped up to challenge Tanahashi for the belt? Nagata! Nagata was due to challenge Tana this time before Yano hijacked that possibility by stealing the IWGP Heavyweight Title belt that was finally retrieved today. Tanahashi entered the ring with a half painted face today that he sported in Mexico on his excursion there.

* Bad Intentions have now established themselves as one of the strongest tag teams to ever step foot on Japanese soil. The holders of both New Japan and NOAH’s tag titles today became the first team to ever go into double figures with IWGP Tag Team Title defenses after making their 10th successful defense against G1 Tag League winners Minoru Suzuki & Lance Archer. They unveiled the “Giant Gun Stun”, a double team version of the Gun Stun (RKO/Diamond Cutter) I think, to sink Archer. They had already broken Chono & Tenzan’s defense record after their V8 defense so to reach ten means it is likely to be a record that stands for many years. Their reign is now closing in on 1 1/2 years long, a very long time in professional wrestling.

* Masato Tanaka revived his old rivalry with Hirooki Goto in his V1 defense of the IWGP Intercontinental Title and defeated him in a fast paced match to retain. Goto has again been inconsistent of late after he seemed very close to finally reaching the highest level.

* Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Satoshi Kojima, their careers forever entwined and having seen them go from young lions together to nWo Japan members to forming one of the most popular tag teams ever to headlining the Tokyo Dome against each other, collided again today. They were 1-1 in recent matches going into this but Tenzan, written off as a spent force by some, showed great energy to defeat his sworn friend. There was CHAOS involvement after the match leading to Kojima helping Tenzan and suggestions of a TenKoji reformation.

* G1 Climax 2011 finalists Nakamura and Naito got into an argument backstage after the seventh match that led to Nakamura beating down his former CHAOS underling.

* Prince Devitt, in his second reign as IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion, made a successful V1 defense of the belt today against TAKA Michinoku who he also defeated in his previous reign. Devitt was nearly unstoppable in his first reign until Kota Ibushi, after several attempts, managed to dethrone him. But Ibushi’s injury meant the belt was straight back on Devitt and another collision between the two could be imminent.

* Davey Richards & Rocky Romero started off what was a night of successful defenses, with all five IWGP belts held on to by their reigning champions, by beating Tiger Mask & KUSHIDA in their first defense of the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title. Having dethroned Apollo 55 recently, the gaijin tandem was in no mood to drop the prestigious belts so soon and Richards made sure that would not happen by pinning KUSHIDA.

* Takayama and Makabe continued their feud in a tag match today that looks certain to lead to a singles match in the near future.

NJPW

NJPW, 12/4/11 (WPW/PPV)
Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium
8,000 Fans – No Vacancy

1. Karl Anderson & Killer Rabbit beat Jado & Gedo (4:47) when Rabbit used the Mochitsuki Drop on Gedo.
2. Toru Yano, Yujiro Takahashi, Tomohiro Ishii & Rocky Romero beat Tomoaki Honma, Tiger Mask, Ryusuke Taguchi & Tama Tonga (9:33) when Romero used a backslide on Taguchi.
3. Special Tag Match: Takashi Sugiura & Atsushi Aoki beat Hirooki Goto & KUSHIDA (11:13) when Sugiura used an Olympic slam on KUSHIDA.
4. Special Tag Match: Yoshihiro Takayama & Lance Archer beat Togi Makabe & Wataru Inoue (10:28) when Takayama used a running kneelift on Inoue.
5. Special Tag Match: Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima beat Takashi Iizuka & Hideo Saito (10:25) when Tenzan used the Anaconda Vice on Iizuka.
6. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Prince Devitt (c) beat Davey Richards (12:16) with the Bloody Sunday (2nd defense).
7. IWGP Intercontinental Title: Masato Tanaka (c) beat MVP (10:09) with the Sliding D (2nd defense).
8. Special Singles Match: Minoru Suzuki beat Giant Bernard (11:53) with a Gotch-style piledriver.
9. Special Singles Match: Shinsuke Nakamura beat Tetsuya Naito (13:15) with the Boma Ye.
10. IWGP Heavyweight Title: Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) beat Yuji Nagata (30:16) with the High Fly Flow (10th defense).

* Hiroshi Tanahashi tied Yuji Nagata’s V10 defense record of the IWGP Heavyweight Title by beating the man himself in a half hour epic today in Aichi. Beating Nagata means that if Tanahashi wins his next defense he will smash Nagata’s defense record and enhance his growing legacy. Tanahashi was confronted after the match by Minoru Suzuki, who had beaten Giant Bernard earlier, and who demanded to be Tanahashi’s Tokyo Dome opponent in January, which will mark the one-year anniversary of Tana’s title win, so this looks to be the main event of WKVI.

* The much awaited G1 Climax 2011 final rematch went the same way with CHAOS leader Nakamura pinning Naito in a fiery match following his Boma Ye, Nakamura showing he is still a leading man in New Japan despite Tanahashi’s near monopoly of the title.

* Masato Tanaka continues to impress as IWGP Intercontinental Title by withstanding the challenge of the man he took it off, MVP. Tanaka pinned the former WWE superstar after smashing him with the Sliding D.

* Devitt’s second reign as IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion also continued as he beat rival Davey Richards in his V2 defense. Devitt has already repeated his successful defenses against Richards and TAKA from his first reign now in his current reign.

* TenKoji’s reunion went without a hitch as they bested CHAOS’ crazy duo of Iizuka & Saito, Tenzan forcing Iizuka to tap out. The big talking point after the match came when CHAOS appeared to kick the mentally unstable Saito out of their faction!

* The two other special tag matches both seemed to suggest singles matches at the Tokyo Dome: Makabe vs. Takayama and Goto vs. Sugiura, both of which would continue old rivalries

Full cards for the remaining shows of New Japan’s 2011 have been announced, including the fan voted dream match show, Kojima’s 20th anniversary show, ahd the Korakuen double header around Christmas time. Naito has been removed from the main event of Kojima’s show where he was to team with FUNAKI, due to an injury he has been carrying that has forced him off shows. Singles matches between TenKoji and Bad Intentions appear to confirm suspicions that the most dominant IWGP Tag Team Champions in history, Bernard & Anderson, will face one of the most beloved tag teams in history, Tenzan & Kojima, at the Tokyo Dome. Two titles will be defended on the first Xmas show at Korakuen with Devitt making his V3 defense of the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title against Rocky Romero, while in what would have once been an indie dream match, Masato Tanaka makes his V3 defense of the IWGP Intercontinental Title against Tomoaki Honma. Cards also reflect Hideo Saito being booted out of CHAOS as he goes up against members of the group.

Masakatsu Funaki returns to his original home at last! New Japan announced five matches for “NJPW 40TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR ~ WRESTLE KINGDOM VI IN TOKYO DOME”, Japanese professional wrestling’s annual super-show at the Tokyo Dome in January. Funaki, who many New Japan fans have long waited to see in the company where he was trained, teams up with Masayuki Kono against Yuji Nagata & Wataru Inoue in a special tag match. New Japan and NOAH go to war as old rivals Hirooki Goto and Takashi Sugiura lock horns, while CHAOS’ Shinsuke Nakamura & Toru Yano do battle with the duo of GHC Heavyweight Champion, Go Shiozaki, and Naomichi Marufuji. TenKoji’s revival grants them a shot at the most dominant IWGP Tag Team Champions in history, Bad Intentions, meaning whether they win or lose, Bernard & Anderson’s reign will have gone from 2010, all the way 2011, and into 2012. And of course, as we all knew, Hiroshi Tanahashi attempts to become the most successful IWGP Heavyweight Champion to ever live as he makes his V11 defense of the prestigious belt against Minoru Suzuki in the main event. More matches are yet to be added but these five promise lots of excitement.

NJPW “NJPW 40TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR ~ WRESTLE KINGDOM VI IN TOKYO DOME”, 1/4/12 (WPW/PPV)

Nothing amazing. All the title matches were good. Funaki stiffed Nagata after their tag. Inoue still sucks. Okada looks fucking ridiculous now.
