FIRST IWGP INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION TO BE CROWNED NEXT MONTH AT NEW JAPAN EAST COAST INVASION!

New Japan Pro Wrestling has always been known as the "King of Sports" for a reason. From their creation many years ago, NJPW has always prided itself on providing the most hard-hitting athletic competition globally for professional wrestling.

Chief among those athletic classics are NJPW's own unique brand of tournament, the G-1 Climax. When New Japan Pro Wrestling comes to the United States next month for their first-ever "East Coast Invasion" they will not only be debuting their first new championship in over a decade but bringing a multi-day tournament to the States to crown that inaugural champion, G-1 Climax style.

A tournament to crown the first-ever International Wrestling Grand Prix Intercontinental Champion will commence Friday May 13th in Rahway, NJ, continuing in New York City on Saturday May 14th before crowning the first champion upon the completion of the finals on Sunday May 15th at the Asylum (formerly ECW) Arena in Philadelphia, PA. In three cities renowned for their love of true pro wrestling, NJPW, in conjunction with JAPW Promotions, will present their one of a kind strong style wrestling as well as global history for the first time ever in the United States.

For ticket information on all NJPW East Coast Invasion events, visit www.JAPW.net.

Here is an overview of the championship tournament's first round:

*The master of "Ghetto Strong Styles", former WWE United States champion MVP is looking to have his first taste of Japanese championship gold in the tournament. MVP will face Kazuchika Okada, who is currently wrestling for an extended tour of TNA. With all the additional seasoning Okada is receiving during his training Stateside, he can't be underestimated by anyone, least of all MVP, who has taken the Japanese wrestling world by storm in recent months.

*Hideo Saito returns to New Japan Pro Wrestling after an extended tour of Puerto Rico and wants to return to Japan with the IWGP Inter-Continental Championship around his waist. To do so, he will have to go through Team No Limit's Yujiro Takahashi, seeking to earn his first ever singles championship in New Japan.

*Tetsuya Naitō, the other half of Team No Limit, is likewise on a quest for his first singles championship victory, but to advance, he will have to defeat the wild card of the tournament, Tama Tonga. A newcomer to New Japan, Tonga comes from the toughest pedigree in wrestling, the son of former WWE star Haku. Tonga wants to bring honor and glory to his family while extending the legacy of his father, the former WWF King and Tag Team champion.

*If anyone has the home field advantage in the opening round of the tournament, "The Bayonne Badass" Dan Maff enters the tournament in Rahway representing both the Garden State and his home promotion JAPW. While Maff is known for being one of the baddest men in the Arena whenever he steps into Rahway, his first round opponent carries the same distinction when he competes in Japan. Maff will be facing renowned tough guy and decorated Greco-Roman wrestler, Toru Yano, who fears no man.

The first round of the IWGP Intercontinental Tournament will take place in Rahway, which will also feature the Dream Tag Team bout of "The Strong Style Thugz", Homicide and Low Ki facing the legendary Jushin "Thunder" Liger and Tiger Mask IV at the Rahway Recreation Center on Friday May 13th.

For ticket information on all NJPW East Coast Invasion events, visit www.JAPW.net.

Hiroshi Tanahashi will make his V4 defense of the IWGP Heavyweight Title against former WWE superstar Charlie Haas on May 14th in New York, according to a new press release. This is one of numerous matches added today to the “NJPW INVASION TOUR ~ATTACK ON EAST COAST~“, another being Tanahashi vs. Davey Richards on 5/15 at the ECW Arena. The full card for the 5/13 New Jersey card is now confirmed while the following two will be impacted by the outcome of the IWGP Intercontinental Title Tournament that begins in New Jersey.

The tour kicks off in just under nine days so if you are local to any of the buildings, make sure you grab a ticket and support Japan’s leading pro wrestling company. If this tour is a success, who knows, these could become a regular thing for New Japan.

Some changes to the upcoming USA tour have been announced by New Japan. Firstly, Tama Tonga has picked up an injury so he will be replaced in the IWGP Intercontinental Title Tournament by Josh Daniels, an experienced wrestler who has competed in WWE and TNA in the past. Daniels will face Naito in round one of the tournament. Secondly, the Apollo 55 vs. Homicide & Low Ki tag match on May 15th in Philadelphia is now for the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title, meaning there will be five title matches altogether on a very eventful tour.

2. Satoshi Kojima beat Kenny Omega (9:29) with a lariat.
3. Giant Bernard, Karl Anderson, Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi beat Shinsuke Nakamura, Davey Richards, Jado & Gedo (13:00) when Devitt used the Bloody Sunday on Jado.
4. IWGP Intercontinental Title Tournament – Round 1: Yujiro Takahashi beat Hideo Saito (Mitsuhide Hirasawa) (8:28) with the Tokyo Pimps.

8. Rhino & Charlie Haas beat Hiroshi Tanahashi & Togi Makabe (16:02) when Rhino used the Gore on Makabe.

* Fans generally liked the show a lot, despite it being the weakest card of the three on offer in the USA.
* Both members of NO LIMIT, as well as Yano and MVP advanced in the IWGP Intercontinental Title Tournament, so with three CHAOS members in the semis, the group has a big chance of taking home the belt.

NJPW, 5/14/11
New York Basketball City, USA
2,500 Fans – Super No Vacancy

1. Kenny Omega beat Josh Daniels (10:22) with the Croyt’s Wrath.
2. Jushin Thunder Liger, Tiger Mask & Dan Maff beat Shinsuke Nakamura, Jado & Gedo (11:50) when Tiger used a Tiger suplex hold on Gedo.
3. Giant Bernard & Karl Anderson beat Satoshi Kojima & Hideo Saito (9:55) when Bernard used the Bernard Driver on Saito.
4. Rhino, Davey Richards & Homicide beat Togi Makabe, Ryusuke Taguchi & Kazuchika Okada (10:53) when Rhino used the Gore on Okada.
5. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Prince Devitt (c) beat Low Ki (16:07) with the Bloody Sunday (7th defense).
6. IWGP Intercontinental Title Tournament – Semi Final: Toru Yano beat Yujiro Takahashi (7:47) with the Oni Koroshi.
7. IWGP Intercontinental Title Tournament – Semi Final: MVP beat Tetsuya Naito (10:57) with the TTB.
8. IWGP Heavyweight Title: Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) beat Charlie Haas (18:50) with the High Fly Flow (4th defense).

* The show seemed to be a big success with a very big crowd for a company touring the USA for the first time. Fans seemed to like the show a lot with the IWGP Jr. match getting especially high marks.
* Tanahashi retained his IWGP Heavyweight Title in his V4 defense over Charlie Haas in what was described as a decent to good match. V5 is likely to be against Hirooki Goto in July but nothing confirmed yet.
* Prince Devitt continues to rule the New Japan junior division and a win over former IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion Low Ki secured his V7 defense as he edges closer to Heat’s 11 successful defenses record. This was said to have been an awesome match that impressed everyone.
* Both members of NO LIMIT were beaten in the IWGP Intercontinental Title Tournament semis, with Yano’s cheating tactics getting him a win over Yujiro before MVP proved to be just too experienced for Naito, setting up Yano vs. MVP to determine the first ever champion at the ECW Arena tomorrow.

NJPW, 5/15/11
Philadelphia Asylum Arena, USA
1,500 Fans – Super No Vacancy Full House

1. Tetsuya Naito beat Hideo Saito (10:07) with a Stardust press.
2. Shinsuke Nakamura, Yujiro Takahashi, Jado & Gedo beat Charlie Haas, Tiger Mask, Kazuchika Okada & Josh Daniels (12:47) when Nakamura used the Boma Ye on Okada.
3. JAPW Light Heavyweight Title: Kenny Omega beat Jushin Thunder Liger (c) (10:42) with the Croyt’s Wrath to become the 26th champion.
4. Giant Bernard & Karl Anderson beat Satoshi Kojima & Dan Maff (14:39) when Anderson used the Gun Stun on Maff.
5. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title: Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi (c) beat Homicide & Low Ki (15:18) when Devitt used the Bloody Sunday on Homicide (5th defense).
6. Hiroshi Tanahashi beat Davey Richards (14:45) with the High Fly Flow.
7. IWGP Intercontinental Title: MVP beat Toru Yano (9:27) with the TTB to become the 1st champion.
8. South Philadelphia Street Fight: Togi Makabe beat Rhino (15:17) with a King Kong kneedrop.

* Show was said to have been very hot with good crowd involvement and good matches. Tana vs. Richards stood out for many as an excellent match.
* There are plans to release the shows on DVD in the USA. They will probably air on Samurai! TV in Japan too.
* Liger relinquished one of the two titles he held, the JAPW Light Heavyweight Title, to Kenny Omega, who after that huge win will carry the belt into New Japan’s upcoming Best of the Super Jr. tournament.
* Lance Hoyt (aka Vance Archer in WWE) attacked Kojima after the fourth match, indicating he is on his way to New Japan. MVP made the save, an intriguing turn considering many have thought he would stay with the faction Minoru Suzuki took from Kojima recently.
* Apollo 55 made a successful V5 defense of the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title over local boys Homicide & Low Ki when Devitt pinned Homicide to continue his dominance over the junior scene.
* MVP became the first ever IWGP Intercontinental Champion after beating Yano in the tournament final. Unlike Dan Maff and Yujiro, MVP was able to cope with Yano’s constant cheating tactics, making him tap out to the TTB to lift the fourth active IWGP title.
* Togi Makabe wrapped up the tour by King Kong kneedropping Rhino, who happened to be covered by chairs and a board. Makabe showed himself to be a hardcore warrior by beating the ex-ECW World Heavyweight Champion in what used to be known as the ECW Arena, home of many classic hardcore battles.
* Will New Japan return to the USA? Only time will tell, the tour seems to have done fairly well, especially the New York show, and word is a tour of the west coast is at least under consideration.

My thoughts on the philly sohw Tomorrow ladies and gentlemen.

PostSubject: Re: Latest Updates On New Japan’s Northeastern US Tour   Latest Updates On New Japan’s Northeastern US Tour EmptyTue May 17, 2011 12:20 am

My thoughts on the philly show:

-the 1500 is inflated, is was more like 500 +

-I took pictures with kenny omaga, Yujiro Takahashi, Mitsuhide Hirasawa, Shinsuke Nakamura, Liger and tiger mask.

-it felt like a real NJPW show

-I freaking love the show.

-I did not know that was lance hoyt jumping Kojima

- Tanahashi has new ring gear. It is white with red designs with black line marks over the designs.

-It is the second time I have seen Davey. The first was a ROH show in NJ a few years ago.

- A-train looks happy wrestling for NJPW

- A-train and Dan Maff were dropping f-bombs at each other.

- Street fights are cool to watch on TV but kind of suck to experience live at the show.

- I wish shinsuke had a single match on the tour.

- the new belt is sweet looking

Can't wait to see them.

Nakamura was in a video package during CMLL this morning. I kept watching the taping thinking he would have a match. He didn't. I was pissed.
